Two pawns separated by a single file are held in opposite-bishop endings: the defending king stands between them and the bishop covers the advance square of the pawn the king does not block.
The rule of thumb for isolated pawns with opposite-coloured bishops: separated by one file they usually draw, separated by two or more files they usually win. This drill is the drawing case.
